Spring 2017 Department Updates

In Texas, this time of year brings many reminders of how the biological sciences shape our lives. Spring—a time when the splendor of local biodiversity is on full display—approaches, making it a great time to highlight The University of Texas at Austin's new Biodiversity Center

The center houses our department's world-class biodiversity collections and biological field stations. Professor David Hillis, the director of our newly established center, will oversee a broad range of research and educational activities, while working to advance public interest in biodiversity.

This month, Professor Daniel Bolnick, a renowned expert in the intersection of evolution and ecology, earned recognition from The Academy of Medicine, Engineering and Science of Texas when he received the 2017 O'Donnell Award in Science. The American Association for the Advancement of Science recently welcomed Professor Mark Kirkpatrick into its latest class of AAAS Fellows

I hope we will see you at one of the spring events on campus. Whether you're taking in one of the monthly Science Under the Stars outreach lectures, trying out an interactive display at Explore UT in March, or volunteering as a judge at April's Undergraduate Research Forum, your participation counts. We welcome the chance for face time with every valued member of our community of alumni, parents and friends.
