Biography
Dean Hendrickson is an organismal biologist focused on fishes, primarily their ecology and evolutionary history, working also on various aspects of fish habitats and sometimes other (usually aquatic) taxa. Most of his work has had some link to conservation, especially in the arid southwestern United States and northern Mexico. Henrickson serves as curator of The University of Texas at Austin fish collection and oversees the Fishes of Texas project. At Arizona State University (ASU), he obtained his B.S. in Fisheries and Wildlife, before serving for two yeras as a Peace Corps Volunteer employed by Colombia’s Natural Resources Agency, INDERENA, doing fisheries management-related fieldwork in the middle Río Magdalena basin. He received his master's degree in Applied Hydrobiology at University of London and Ph.D. from ASU. Before coming to UT, he served as native fish biologist for the Arizona Game and Fish Department.
